Jerome Eugene Mikulich
December 2, 1939 - May 14, 2003 in Fair Oaks, CA. Born and raised in Joliet, IL, Jerry served in the USAF then received BA degrees in Art and Mathematics from the University of San Francisco. His thirst for knowledge and aptitude for acquiring skills led him into a variety of diverse jobs from designing light fixtures in SF and women’s shoes in Maine to eventually becoming an expert residential and commercial property appraiser for a number of northern CA counties. During his 20 years as an appraiser, he also taught mathematics at local junior colleges and held real estate appraisal classes for state appraisers.
Jerry lived the belief that one should never quit learning. In addition to working and teaching part-time, he became adept in carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and welding. Using these skills, he built two of his own homes and renovated several other properties. Upon retirement, he threw himself into yet another interest, aviation. He got a private pilot’s license then went back to school to earn an A&P license and work as an airplane mechanic. Next he became a licensed aviation inspector and began teaching in Sac City College’s aviation program. Subsequently, he received a DME from the FAA.
Not wanting to be idle, he began building his own airplane and rebuilding VWs. When lung cancer rendered him unable to fly and lecture, he fell back on yet another talent, woodcarving and artwork. Unlike a “Jack of all trades, master of none”, Jerry was a master of many things. He was creative, artistic, extremely knowledgeable, skilled in a variety of fields, a natural born teacher, a gifted storyteller, a prize of a husband, and a great friend. We, his family and friends, feel truly enriched for having known and loved him.
Jerry Mikulich is survived by his wife, Marcella Enos. He will be grievously missed and not forgotten by her nor his son, Weston; mother, Pauline; stepsons, David and Robert Enos; brothers, Matthew, Larry, Mick, and Richard; his sister, Susan; all their respective spouses and children; and friends too numerous to mention. Mass will be said at Divine Savior Catholic Church on May 24th at 8:30am for the repose of his soul. In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, there will be no other services. Loved ones are asked to remember him as he lived, in love with the goodness and beauty of life.
